Mattresses and Ensembles (mattress with matching base):

Over the past 30 years we have been involved in bedding and related industries working with consumers, suppliers, manufactures and retailers. Sleepy Hollow (after years of research) has selected Comfort Sleep Bedding as its major supplier of quality mattresses and ensembles.

All models at Sleepy Hollow can be purchased as a mattress only or as a complete ensemble. They are suitable for individuals or couples of all shapes, age (Children, Teenagers, Adults and Elderly),  weight and comfort preference.

The concept of support systems used in Comfort Sleep Bedding (as detailed below – 5 turn, 6 turn, Sensor Flex, Twin Sensor Flex and Natural Latex) is consistent across Australia. However, Sleepy Hollow has selected the best models within Comfort Sleep’s ranges and customised models to provide better, and a greater quantity of quality materials, resulting in greater comfort and support.

Comfort Layers:
Comfort and quilting layers vary enormously between models such as Wool, Dacron, 100% Natural Latex,100% Soft Natural Latex, Visco-Elastic (slow release memory foam), High Density Plush foam, High Density Soft foam, Hypersoft foam, Medium Density Health Guard treated foam and Extra Firm foam. Individual use, combinations and quantities of these products create different feels and comfort levels with varying benefits while aiding support.

5 Turn spring:
A traditional spring system that has stood the test of time. Initial feel is soft but firms as weight is applied due to the shape of the spring. Strength of spring is determined by gauge (thickness) of wire, tempering (process to increase degree of hardness and elasticity of steel) and height of spring (the taller the spring, the weaker the spring, unless the number of turns is increased).
The springs in Sleepy Hollow’s range of mattresses are joined together by helicoil wires which run head to toe (instead of across the mattress) which reduces movement (partner disturbance) and roll together (dipping in centre of mattress).
This spring system can be zoned so that there is a greater concentration (and sometimes thicker gauge) of springs through the centre of the mattress enabling increased support where weight is concentrated.
Around the perimeter of the mattress is either a steel edge support or rubber surround (carefully selected for each specification of mattress) which strengthens the edge of the mattress where people tend to sit. It also increases the sleeping surface area of the mattress by allowing you to sleep right to the edge of the mattress without feeling like you are rolling off the edge or back into the centre.

6 Turn Spring:   A softer, but stronger (and longer lasting) spring due to the extra turn in the wire. The shape of the spring enables more springs to be placed in the mattress (and closer together), resulting in reduced wear as each individual spring takes less weight. There are 70% more springs than a conventional mattress. The strength of the spring is reinforced by the gauge (thickness) and tempering (process to increase degree of hardness and elasticity of steel).
The 6 Turn Super Springs are joined together by helicoil wires which run head to toe (instead of across the mattress). When combined with the higher spring count, they have a greater ability to  reduce movement (partner disturbance) and roll together (dipping in centre of mattress) as there is less pull (and stretch) on these helicoil wires due to the close proximity of the springs.

Sensor-Flex Individual Spring:
A firm but moulding spring system which reacts to your shape (as opposed to where weight is distributed), resulting in correct body alignment no matter whether you sleep on your side, back or front. This is one of the best spring systems for reducing partner disturbance and roll together as the springs are not connected by steel (no helicoil wire). The springs are separated and move independently in specially designed fabric units that are fantastic for partners of different weights or different comfort preferences.

Sensor-Flex Twin Spring:
This is an award winning system with one of the highest spring counts available (nearly 1300 springs in a queen size mattress). As with the individual Sensor-Flex spring, the twin spring is fantastic for reducing partner disturbance and roll together. The even distribution of weight through the entire spring system prolongs the life and enjoyment of the mattress.
Around the perimeter of the mattress is a double edge made up of an hour glass shaped steel edge support and a rubber surround (carefully selected for each specification of mattress) which strengthens the edge of the mattress where people tend to sit. It also increases the sleeping surface area of the mattress by allowing you to sleep right to the edge of the mattress without feeling like you are rolling off the edge or back into the centre.

Natural Latex:
Natural Latex is one of the most expensive (but durable) substances to be used in mattresses. Sleepy Hollow uses natural latex in high quality mattresses as a comfort layer in spring mattresses or in block form (no springs in the mattress). There are two methods of manufacturing Latex. The original Dunlop method (since 1910) or the relatively new Talalay method.
The original Dunlop process uses 100% Natural Latex (tapped sap from the rubber tree) to make a 100% Natural Latex block (with no synthetic extenders). Recently companies trying to make a greater profit have blended a mixture of natural latex and synthetic to form a Latex block (Sleepy Hollow does not use synthetic extended latex).
The Talalay process was developed after world war 2 when there was a dramatic increase in demand for natural latex which forced the price to increase as supply could not keep up with demand. The Talalay process introduced synthetics (coal, oil, gas, acetylene etc) into the manufacturing formulae which were more widely available and far cheaper to obtain. The Talalay process is geared to work with synthetic (coal, oil, gas, acetylene etc) rubbers. Most manufacturers using the Talalay process blend 70% synthetic with 30% Natural Latex.
In terms of processing costs, the Dunlop process costs less (only requires heating) and the Talalay process costs more due to the large amounts of energy used to freeze and heat the latex blend. However the cost of the resulting product is reversed when 100% Natural Latex is used in its entirety in the Dunlop process as it is a denser product and there are no cheap synthetic blends / extenders mixed in with the Natural Latex. 100% Natural Latex is more expensive, however, it is our belief that it is healthier, superior in quality and more environmentally friendly than its synthetic foe.
Sleepy Hollow only sells 100% Natural Latex (no blends / extenders / fillers) blocks or layers in our products as people who have previously slept on Natural Latex are familiar with its quality and durability. Latex mattresses are fantastic at reducing pressure points and partner disturbance. Natural latex is hygienic, hyper-allergenic, dust free, contaminant free, non-toxic and as yet unchallenged in retaining its green strength. 100% Natural Latex’s superb flexibility and resilient characteristics at any degree of hardness makes it ideal in Sleepy Hollow’s high quality mattresses.
